Working as a sworn translator

The course aims to present the specificity of the work of a sworn translator, with particular emphasis on interpreting for the judiciary and public administration. 
 The course is of a practical nature so that its participants can prepare for the role of a sworn translator in the best possible way.

During the classes you will learn:

  • what the work of a sworn translator looks like in different environments,
  • whether it is profitable to be a sworn translator
  • what typical problems may arise in cooperation with justice authorities
  • the most common dilemmas for sworn translators,
  • how the oral part of the Sworn Translator exam works,
  • what is a sworn translator's criminal and civil liability,
  • how to improve your qualifications.

During the classes you will learn:

  • how to translate in accordance with professional standards,
  • price your work appropriately,
  • properly protect documents and your interests,
  • solve ethical dilemmas.

The translator at the museum and ISO standards for translation service providers

If you want to take part in an authentic translation project for a museum, this course is for you 😊

The course has been scheduled for 3 semesters.

The course objectives include learning:

- different types of museum-related texts in translational perspective, taking into account accessibility issues;

- audio-description rules for works of art (in two languages – English and Polish);

- translation quality standards, including ISO standards for translation service providers.

Thanks to active participation in the course you will learn:

- to choose appropriate translation strategies and techniques taking into account the museum visitors’ needs,

- to use online collaboration tools (such as cloud-based CAT tools),

- to search for appropriate terms e.g. by consulting specialists, including art historians,

- to assess and improve the quality of translations,

- to take responsibility for different tasks within the frames of team translation projects for museums.
